why do we have emotionsWhy do we need emotions? why do we have a brain that controls our emotions? ?

i understand that with emotions we can feel for others which enhances our chances of survival but why do we need sadness, and other emotions?
I'm guessing that sadness helps us localise what we don't want, which can then tell us what we do want and allow us to pursue that. (For example - my ferret's been depressed because of the new ferrets we've brought home. In the wild, that would tell her to remove the ferrets or find another howhy do we have emotionsme.)
you need all your emotions to make decisions, to learn from mistakes and do make your understanding better. I don't think that without the set of emotions that humans possess that we could have evolved to the state we did.

You need negative emotions to appreciate that a positive one is good, without that balance it wouldn't work

Also, sadness can sometimes be a product of empathy, which is a positive emotion. (Its what makewhy do we have emotionss people mad and upset about things like children being abused and killed by their parents)
All I can say is you are very lucky then. I swear in my case emotions seem to control my brain rather than the other way around. Emotions, like you said are a survival technique, including sadness. Personally, these days it seems the world is running out of empathy these days, we could use a little more of it.
