I am currently using Gran Paradiso, which is very similar to firefox 3, but I want to truly install FF 3. I downloaded the package from mozilla and now I have no idea what to do. How do I install Firefox 3 correctly from this package?
What LUg said above.
Also, after installing Firefox 3 go back and un-check unsupported updates!
Psychocat has a script on her site which will do it for you too;
I just checked. Look in Synaptic Package Manager, searched Firefox, and I see 3.0 is available. I would do the install that way, then, when Mozilla does a patch (it has a security risk, install firefox in ubuntu very minor), Ubuntu Update Manager will notify you.
It is always better to use Synaptic or apt-get. Let's use apt-get. In a Terminal:
sudo apt-get install firefox-3.0
[password]
need to get 11.3mb of blah, blah blah...
OK to continue?
if sudo apt-get can't find firefox-3.0, then we need to:
System -> Administration -> Software Sources -> (Updates Tab) make sure all the check boxes are checked.
Ubuntu is debian. Debian for a reason, it installs all the pieces in the proper locations. Use the Synaptic or apt-get
good luck.
First you need to enable unsupported install firefox in ubuntuupdates.
System>Administration>Software Sources
Select the updates tab and check the Unsupported updates box. Click Close and Reload, the window will disappear after around 10-15 seconds.
Now open a Terminal and submit the following command
sudo apt-get install firefox-3.0
and thats it.
LUg.
Go to add/remove programs, find firefox 3 and install it. If you can't, using the file from firefox's web page, Use the package manager to uncompress it, and then install it. Search the FAQ's if you are still in doubt.
